Akashi Kaikyo Bridge [ KOBE ]

Akashi Kaikyo Bridge Image

Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is a 3-span, 2-hinged stiffening truss suspensions bridge that spans the Akashi Straits, linking Honshu to the west of Kobe City with the island of Awaji. The bridge is 3.9km long with a center span of nearly 2km, being the longest suspension bridge in the world. The construction began in May 1988 and completed in April 1998. The Bridge Exhibition Center at the foot of the Kobe side of the bridge provides well-presented information about the planning and construction of the bridge and about other suspension bridges around the world, although the detailed explanations are available in Japanese only.
