  Akihabara [ TOKYO ]

Akihabara Image

Once was known as “Electric Town” with many electric appliance shops. Nowadays, however, the town, nicknamed Akiba, is also known as a Mecca of Japanese subculture. It attracts people from all over the world, including “otaku” or fanatics, for items for hobby and things to do with computers, video games, “anime” (animation) and “manga” (comics or cartoons). Within a walking distance there are quite a lot of shops stocked with electrical appliance, PC, items for hobbies, games, audio products, robots, cameras, railway models, costume-play goods, and goods related to manga or anime. In addition, maid-cafes, where girls in maid costume welcome visitors as if the visitors were milord or milady, as well as “idol” cafes or theaters, where would-be idols perform on a stage and entertain visitors and fans, are popular.
