Mido-Suji Avenue Image

Visitors to Osaka city admire the beauty of Midosuji Avenue and its gingko trees, the symbolic trees of Osaka. This avenue, 43.6m (143ft) wide and 4.02km (2.5mi) long, connects the two nerve centers of the city’s activities: the Umeda business center in the north and the Namba amusement center in the south. It was completed in May 1937, four years after the opening of the city’s first subway system, the Midosuji Line, which runs beneath it.
